barking dog……..?
i recently adopted a dog through a friend. hes a georgeous beagle and im starting to fall for him. however…theres a problem….i live with a few roomates and we all work really early in the morning. the dog gets in the way becuase he likes to bark….a lot. and you know a beagle barks like…i dont even know what to compare it to. im afraid that if i dont get this dog to control his barking..im going to have to give him up. what is the best method to get this dog to stop barking? i know shock collars and spraying them with water are popular but shock collars are extremley inhumane to me and i think the water would just make our house smell like wet dog all the time. i was thinking about getting voice box removed but that sounds horrible to me to. what can i do?
Debarking is a last resort, but better in my opinion than either yelling at him all the time or getting rid of him.
If training fails and you decide to do this, contact some sheltie and beagle breeders in the area to have them recommend a good Vet for this. Not all vets do it, and not all do it well. You want a vet that’s known for doing a lot of successful debarkings.
