Where can I find a type of behavior shock collar? I don’t want a anti-bark collar. Is there one that is not very expensive that has a hand held control so I can press it when he is doing the bad behavior?

I was told to get a shock collar when my Pit Bull mix was misbehaving. He went through a period after my husband first passed when he was being pretty aggressive and sometimes he directed it at me. I was told it was because I wasn’t being the pack leader, blah,blah,blah. Anyway I took him to a trainer who was referred to me by the local Humane society. He taught classes at the local super petz. When I took him there to evaluate him, he told me to get a shock collar and put it on him and zap him when he showed aggression. I took his advice and regreted it. I bought one at the local pet smart, paid like $100 bucks for it. I used it a few times, but it ended up really hurting him and he sort of got scared of me for a while. I think it ended setting us back in re – establishing his boundaries, and his new place in the pack.

I took him to see a friend of ours at the local pet smart and she said that I needed to show him who was boss. He was pushing me around and I just had to stand up to him, and tell him who was boss. To be honest it sorta scared the poop out of me when he would growl and bare his teeth. We even contimplated putting him down. One day though, I had enough and sternly told him “no” and stood my ground, he even came at me, and I kneed him away and stood my ground. That was the last time he ever did that to me. I had never had a Big Dog like him, and had no idea how to do it without my husband. I had to read some books. Cesar Milan’s books were very helpful. He definitly thought my husband was the head and felt he needed to take over now that he was gone. I had to show him I was the boss and that I would now take care of him. Once I did that, everything changed. Take him to a class (it’s never too late) and work with him. You’ll both be happier. BTW it has been 7 yrs now and he is still here and my big baby. He follows me everywhere and I’ve had no problems since we established that I’m in charge. Hope this helps. Good luck.
