What kind of animals strip the bark off trees?
I live in Ohio. While I was recently staying in a cabin in a heavily forested area, I noticed a tree with all the bark stripped off from the ground up about 5 feet. Just curious what type of animals do this?

Porcupines for one. Sometimes black bears will also “scratch” at trees to leave their marks. I guess if the tree is not doing well, it’s possible that the bark could be completely stripped.
Also, you don’t mention the diameter of the tree. On rather small trees, like saplings, a whitetail buck deer will certainly strip all the bark off with its antlers.
