Dog squeals when on the leash?
My Jack Russell cross dog shrieks with excitement the moment he sees the leash and continues throughout his walk. If I let him off he is quiet but he bites big dogs so I am not able to let him off.I have tried not taking him out until he has quieted a bit and that helps but as soon as he sees another dog or jogger he goes crazy. He is a rescue dog of 1 year and is not afraid of anything, especially not me so I can’t shout or smack him to stop it. I have tried training class and antibark collars no use. Help help
First let me commend you for rescuing a pup.
Take him out in the boonies where there are no people and walk him there for awhile. Take some Dog Biscuits and a whistle with you. If he starts to yelp, blow the whistle and say “no!” “quiet” and give him a biscuit. The idea is to get him into a pattern of not barking as he walks.
Once he is doing well , invite a family member or friend to go with you with their pet to the same place with no people. Repeat the whistle and the SAME commands if he barks at the other dog.
After you’ve done this with his not barking, gradually start taking him to people places. Use the same commands and treats. When you treat him, always say”Good Boy!” And pet him.
Use a loud “No!”"quiet” if he barks.
The main thing is for him to feel calm and safe and repeating things is the only way to do that.
