Anemia In Dogs Treatment

What are the chances of blood transfusion being fatal for a dog with anemia?
my dog was diagnosed with anemia
the Vet says a transfusion will be fatal..i’m guessing she doesn’t need it..but idk whether to believe him or not. we’re starting treatment for it tomorrow and we have to bring her (my dog) in twice a day for shots with iron and vitamins..and to check her blood.
do you think her situation is fatal or will she be able to pull through?
Go back to your vet and ask him to clarify the situation. Transfusions should not be a fatal course of treatment. Perhaps they meant that a transfusion was not needed at this time?? I believe that transfusions are “reserved” for the more crucial cases. Hopefully a vet ot vet tech will chime in on this one.. Hope your dog gets better

Understanding Anemia $23.66 Each year thousands are told they suffer from anemia, but most have only a vague understanding of the condition. In fact, anemia is a generic term that includes myriad specific diseases, each of which has its own story regarding cause, manifestations, and treatments.Understanding Anemia gently builds upon elementary knowledge of biology to provide the general reader with a fairly sophisticated understanding of the various causes of anemia, of the methods used to make diagnoses, and of the principles of treatment. The book begins with a definition of anemia and a brief history of the scientific study of blood. It explains how the doctor makes the diagnosis and details the main types of anemia. Since the different conditions result from the failure of various organs, the reader will come away with a surprisingly broad understanding of human anatomy and physiology, encompassing the digestive, circulatory, and immune systems, nutrition, biochemistry, and heredity.Features: Specific anemias: iron deficiency, vitamin deficiencies, hemolytic anemias, hereditary anemias, and others Helpful appendices: a practical guide to the metric system, a brief review of general cell biology, a table of normal values in commonly ordered lab tests, a description of the bone marrow biopsy procedure, a list of pitfalls a doctor faces during the evaluation of the anemic patient, resources for further study (both in print and on the Internet)Ed Uthman is director of the medical laboratory at Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Texas. Acquired Hemolytic Anemia $71.7 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Acquired hemolytic anemia can be divided into immune and nonimmune mediated forms of hemolytic anemia. Hemolytic anemia (or haemolytic anaemia) is anemia due to hemolysis, the abnormal breakdown of red blood cells (RBCs) either in the blood vessels (intravascular hemolysis) or elsewhere in the body (extravascular). It has numerous possible causes, ranging from relatively harmless to lifethreatening. The general classification of hemolytic anemia is either inherited or acquired. Treatment depends on the cause and nature of the breakdown. Symptoms of hemolytic anemia are similar to other forms of anemia (fatigue and shortness of breath), but in addition the breakdown of red cells leads to jaundice and increases the risk of particular longterm complications such as gallstones and pulmonary hypertension.
