Can i stop MY reactions to dog?? – is it dog allergy?

two questions really –
Firstly I had a dog for 14 years and nothing. I play with dogs the whole time and I have no reactions – however i just got a dog – we are treating him for fleas – but i keep getting kinda rashes/spots appearing on skins asi keep petting him – can it be a dog allergy???

Secondly
If i do have a dog allergy – i only have got this dog and am not going to not pet him/get rid of him, and was wondering is there any treatment that i can have – like is there injection i can have to not be allergic if it is?

I’m allergic to dogs, and have had dogs my entire life. I went through allergy shots as a kid and they really improved my being able to play with the dogs.

Now I’m older and the help that those shots were has worn off in the 20 or so years since I had them. So now I’m going through shots again, and they’ve helped with the rashes and hives I get when playing with the dogs.

Like the other poster said, some dogs are worse than others. There is also the choice of daily medication, which works but can start to lose effectiveness or you might not like the side effects. I was willing to go for the shots because dog is only one of a vast array of things I”m allergic to.

I would wait to decide it was the dog until after you have gotten done with his flea medication. You can always go for allergy testing, too, and see if that comes up positive. As it is wash with cool water after you’ve played with the dog and hopefully this will help with the rash, and try an over the counter allergy medicine to see if that helps you some.
