Dog Bites carpet because of light??? Help!?

I have a six year old Shih Tzu. Whenever he sees any type of light on the floor, or wall, whether it be from a flashlight, reflection, whatever, he bites the carpet. He doesn’t rip it up or do any real damage, but it’s really gross, and it leaves parts of the carpet all soggy.
He also bites the carpet when the fire alarm goes off, and it probably hurts his ears.
Does he bite because he doesn’t know what else to do with himself??
How do I break him of that habit? I’ve already tried disciplining him for doing it, but he still does it.

When he sees the light, just focus him on you. Tell him to sit, or lie down, roll over, go around, etc, ask him to do tricks you have taught him, etc. Throw a ball or stuffed animal to chase.

This lite chasing is usually from boredom. Take him out for longer and more walks. Try walking in different places, different parks or trails. Or if he has playmates his size, give him more playdate time with his friends.

Or join a local dog walking group, so you get out more with him and you can socialize with other dog lovers, so you are both having more fun.

If he has a busier life so he is less bored will help. When he sees the light, throw a ball or toy for him to chase. Just refocus his energy to something else, like playing or doing tricks, or take him outside to play.

This isn’t a bad thing, but you don’t like it, so refocus him on something else, but he doesn’t need discipline for it, he just needs to know what else he can do that you do like.
