Help!?I need help how to improve my flute tone!!!!?
I make such a CHEAP beginner’s sound like all the other 7th & 8th grade flute players at band. It makes this airy sound, like you can hear AIR when I play. How do you make the tone sound sweeter and more professional? By the way, I have braces and that just makes things worse!!! AHHHHHHH
I also have trouble playing High C for some reason just high C, I can play things lower or even higher than High C but just not that note! It’s strange…
Hi! don’t dispair! Braces are not the end of the world. I have had several very successful students with braces and a variety of other mouth gear. There were many good ideas in the previous answer, i am hoping to add a couple things. Take a look at your mouth when you play. When you put your flute up to your lips, be sure you are not doing the kiss and roll thing (when you do this your flute rests on your lip). Your bottom lip should rest on the lip plate and you should bring your top lip down to focus the air across the hole. Look to make sure the hole in your lips is centered on the tone hole. You should not be smiling, it is almost a frown, you are bringing your top lip down almost like you are making a bunny face. Grab a straw or a pencil, put it in your mouth and pull it out leaving your lips exactly like they were with it in. Use this as a guide for the size of the hole in your lips you are trying to achieve. Now on top of all of that closing, you have to open everything else up. Open your mouth on the inside, so you have a nice round inside, almost like it would seem if you were taking a bite of a crunchy apple. Leave the inside open and relaxed, but close the lips and form your embouchure. Does this help? Give some more information if you still have questions. good luck!
are you talking about the high C 2 leger lines above the staff or the super high C above that? For the C 2 leger lines above the staff, make sure you are holding your flute steady and you are not rolling in or something because you have so few fingers on keys. For the super high C, see if you can find someone who plays better than you (maybe like a really good senior or something) to play your flute to see if he/she can play the super high notes. It may be that your flute has a leak somewhere that is giving you problems or that your flute may not play that note well. Sometimes beginner flutes just don’t have the capacity to play the reallllly high notes well(mine didn’t, so many years ago). Also make sure you have the correct fingerings.
