Dog Grooming for a Newfoundland dog?

Hi i have a year and 5 month old Newfoundland mix with lab i think and his coat is a bit heavy for Florida weather in summer time, so i am thinking of giving him a haircut by me and i was wondering if i can use a Adjustable Blade Clipper made for humans would work just as well as one made for dogs because i do not want to spend $75 on a tool i am proly only goin to use around 3 times a year

Clippers made for people won’t work on a dog, especially not one with a thick coat.

And you really need to know that shaving this dog’s going to make him unable to tolerate the heat and cause him to get sunburned. A dog’s coat insulates from heat as well as cold.

If you feel his coat’s too heavy, then buy yourself a Furminator. It’s a rather expensive tool but it does an excellent job of taking out all the dead undercoat, thus thinning the coat greatly without ruining it.
